Limit Break:Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki. A technique based off his memories of Hiten Mitsurugi, the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki is a draw-out sword stroke that surpasses even the speed of battojutsu, delivering a blow of incredible strength at incredible speed. Even if the initial strike is checked or evaded, the sheer velocity of the technique creates a near-vacuum capable of knocking the opponent off balance and drawing them in for an even stronger secondary blow. While powerful, the Limit is limited (hah) to a single opponent.
He's been my homeboy since I was a kid, and nothing less than a strong handle on his character will do. If you have any tips, crit, feedback, or clean/dirty laundry to offer, this one humbly accepts them here.

Character (Original Universe) Name: Kenshin Himura Age: 28 Gender: Male Canon:Rurouni Kenshin Canon Point: Three weeks after his final duel with Enishi Yukishiro at the climax of the Jinchuu arc. History:Kenshin Himura on the Kenshin Wiki. In brief:
An orphaned peasant from mid-1800s Japan who was taken as a boy under the wing of a skilled swordsman, Kenshin Himura is the final master of the art of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū, an ancient sword style of the Sengoku era that pits one against many - the pinnacle of Japanese swordsmanship. When the Meiji Revolution broke out, however, Kenshin defied his master's commands to stay a neutral party (for whichever side of the conflict Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū served would win), and, his training incomplete, broke with centuries of tradition to join the side of the Imperialists. He became the Hitokiri Battousai of wartime infamy, the most feared assassin of the Bakumatsu conflict. His deadly skills turned the tide of the war and ultimately helped to win it for the Imperialists, but at tremendous personal cost. At the close of the war, Kenshin laid down his assassin's sword forever, swore never again to take another person's life, and simply wandered away.
Ten years later, the story of Rurouni Kenshin unfolds as a humble wanderer bearing a cross-shaped scar on his left cheek and a sakabatō (a reverse-bladed sword) is accosted by the young heir to her own dojo, Kaoru Kamiya, whose life he comes to save and who invites him to stay with her in her home. Finding a new "family" with Kaoru and the friends they come to make, Kenshin contends over the course of the series with many rivals - old rivals from the Bakumatsu come to settle the score, his successor hitokiri who dreams of overthrowing the new government, and the vengeful brother of his late wife - and confronts not only the consequences of his crimes, but the psychological shadow of his own past hitokiri self, his rash willingness to sacrifice himself despite knowing the pain his death would cause those who love him for who he is today, and the question of how he can possibly atone for the anguish he caused as the Battousai.
Personality: The kind, humble, generous, slightly goofy, and effortlessly positive wanderer with a serious knack for cooking has little in common with the cold-blooded killer who stalked the shadows of the Bakumatsu. Kenshin acts as humbly as he speaks of himself (to the point of a verbal tic, usually referring to himself as "This one" rather than "I" or "myself", though he does use "we", "my", and "mine."). He offers help graciously, listens attentively, and is effortlessly patient. He is virtually impossible to anger as long as another's life or dignity is not being threatened.
When he is angry, Kenshin can definitely remind those around him that he was the most feared killer in Japan. Kenshin struggles over the course of the story with "reversion" to his previous self, the Hitokiri Battousai, which occasionally surfaces as an alternate personality. (My own take is that it isn't a Bruce Banner/Hulk division, but a shift in perspective triggered by immersion in battle for its own sake - a lingering doubt in his efficiency as a peace-loving wanderer, and a latent wonder if his way of thinking as the Battousai was not, in the end, the "correct" one.) This struggle is largely over by the time he would enter Melodies of Life, but with magic at work, you never know what shadows will be cast.
A great warrior who would rather not fight, Kenshin recognizes that swordsmanship is the art of killing other people, but believes that as civilization enters the 20th century, the art can find a new meaning for itself - one that serves and protects life, rather than merely taking it. He understands that his power as a stylist of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū is so great that he must police himself; no one else can do it for him. He gives battle only when there is no other recourse and strives to settle it as quickly as possible. Convincing his opponent not to fight at all is his preference.
His vow to not kill deserves some explanation. Kenshin took the vow after inadvertently causing the death of his first wife, Tomoe Yukishiro - his "breaking point" as an assassin. But he didn't make that oath merely because he lost his taste for killing. He decided it wasn't even the right way of thinking. The problem with Dead is you can't change your mind tomorrow. Many enemies Kenshin could have killed found redemption because he spared them. By ruling out the option of deadly force, Kenshin has to try harder to save his enemies. Many of his rivals choose to kill because they deem it acceptable to "give up" on an offender. Kenshin never will.
In general, he is a kind, brave, and truly hopeful man whose every action today derives itself from his newfound respect and regard for life. Even his enemies know this of him. He will never run from a foe with another's life at stake; he will try to rescue a hostage; and he will save a life, no matter how degraded or "worthless." (He rejects that last notion to the marrow of his bones.)
He is also very goofy and is notoriously capable of a high-pitched, confused, and singularly unique exclamation known as "Oro?"
At the point Kenshin would be arriving to Melodies of Life, he has faced his final enemy and made his peace with his past. Nothing can change the pain and deaths for which he is responsible, but he will not allow those sins from doing the good that must be done today. Or tomorrow. Or for the rest of his life. "Until this life of battles is followed through." Nor will he deny that, though all have the right to hate him for his sins, there are those who love him in spite of them. And since he'll be entering endgame, so there's no need for a personal arc - the denouement of the saga of the Heroes of Light is one more battle he can devote to seeing through. The others gathered to Crystallis will find him calm, undistracted, supportive, and dedicated to their success. Though he has not been present for the greater share of their sagas, he will stand with them to the end.
Third-Person Sample:
Very rarely had Kenshin engaged in a swordfight where meeting his opponent's blade with his would be a very bad idea. Of course, he did not often give battle to hulking giants whose very bodies seemed fashioned from steel. He darted past another swipe of the creature's enormous, hatchet-like sword, its passing like the flutter of some great curtain, and his eyes sharpened on its gigantic frame once again. This "Iron Giant" seemed like a being of...almost organic armor. Could that truly be, he wondered? So many strange things he had seen in his short time on Crystallis. Either way, it did not seem likely his sakabatō - the new one forged for him as a Ninja - could achieve much effect.
But he had promised to buy the others time. He would honor that promise. He would not fail.
At last, however, the Iron Giant forced an opening through its brawn and fury, and Kenshin had no choice but to deliver a parry to an upward strike. It was like trying to check a battering ram. Kenshin grit his teeth as he went flying from the strike of the Giant's enormous blade on the flat of his sakabatō. His back was nearly upon a great column of the temple by the time he found the strength to hitch his hips and draw himself up and over in a somersault, his sandaled feet hitting the marble to save him from what would have been a disabling impact. Pain bit into his hamstrings, robbing him of the strength - and the time - to rebound for a counter-stroke. All he could do was let himself fall.
He landed on the cobblestones with a grunt, reminded again that it demanded much of his Job's abilities to apply his memories of Hiten Mitsurugi to them, and his body was at its limit. There was a chance, Kenshin understood, that it might fail him today. But it is only my body. The faces of those he had met in Aqures Ixen, the Heroes of Light, flashed before him on the heels of that thought. For all his fatigue, Kenshin smiled tightly. For them, I can wield much more than that.
He grasped the hilt of his sword, using it to pull himself to his feet as the creature reared up before him, a wall of steel shadow. Kenshin used the pause to catch his breath, and wonder again how the fiend could even move with so much bulk. Even Fuji, the great giant that his master had faced in Kyoto, was of lesser stature. What terrible wonders called Crystallis home...
The Giant's eyes seemed to beat on him as it approached, two unblinking orbs of golden menace. Again that phantom voice from within its armor-chest - the otherworldly tones of whatever force had possessed the fiend - filled the temple chamber. "You can do nothing against me alone." Its blade raised in one mighty arm, casting Kenshin in its shadow. It clearly intended no second stroke. "Despair of the sword that has learned its limits, and die!"
They were familiar words. So familiar Kenshin felt his lips curve wryly toward the scar on his cheek. Had it only been days before that Enishi had shouted them at him? But as the Giant bore upon him, Kenshin's answer was no different.
He did not stand alone. He never would again, no matter where his path led.
He needed but close his eyes, and Kenshin had all the allies he needed. Master Hiko. Yahiko, Sanosuke, Megumi, Aoshi and Misao. Tomoe. All those he had failed for which he must atone, and all those who cared for him for which he must live. Those he had met here on Crystallis, the Heroes of Light who faced the closing hours, the darkest hours, of their greatest challenges.
And Miss Kaoru.
Kenshin reopened his eyes, resolve glinting in their violet. "The power of your sword does exceed mine," he said, as he had told Enishi. His gaze sharpened to an edge like the spine of his sword. "But you see only that power. Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū has protected people from the time of antiquity. It knows no limits."
The Giant had halved the distance between them. Thundering footsteps shook the ground beneath him. As it had so often before, as was the tale of his very life, Kenshin's sword slid into its scabbard one final time. His hand lay poised upon it, and he turned the profile of his body to meet the fiend's charge. The fiend bellowed its challenge and drew upon him with the unstoppable rage of an avalanche, and Kenshin breathed in all his strength. All his purpose.
For at least one more time, he broke his limits.
Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū ougi: Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki!
Time seemed to slow in gray around him, a sense of tunnel vision stripping away everything but the attack of the Iron Giant. Then there was no more time. No more distance, and no more running. The Giant swung its wall of a sword, dark victory gleamed in its eyes as the blade swept down -
And in that heartbeat between life and death, Kenshin drew his sword and gave his answer.
Mognet Sample:
To the Heroes of Light,
It is my hope that this letter finds you well. Though this one has come late to the hour of your cause, he is glad to find himself in your company. Kenshin Himura is this one's name.
It is my understanding that you are to face battles of great importance in the coming days. Battles are not normally what this one embraces, but he understands these cannot be avoided - and would not have you face them alone. There have been many comrades this one shared philosophies and front lines with, and you are no different. Please know that my sword is in the service of your protection and your life.
Or, at the very least, please allow this one to prepare a good meal for you! You will surely need your strength. My best cooking is usually with rice or noodles. But this one is excited to see many ingredients not known to his home. It is an effort to pronounce, but these 'Gysahl Greens' may do very well for a salad. Mognote: I am REALLY trying to convince him not to try this, kupo! NOT FOR NON-CHOCOBO CONSUMPTION! Oh goodness, he's already tossing them... - Callo
Again, sorry for the short notice. This one has been told of all you have done, and can only imagine the weight of what you bear now that the time for settling matters has come. But settle them you will, and this one will graciously join your side. Know that you may call this one ally, and friend, in the days ahead. To the very end of all things.
We shall see it done, together.
Yours,
Kenshin Himura
